Before

  • Black Tom Cassidy underwent a secondary mutation, transforming into a plant-based form. He incarcerated his former friend Juggernaut and repeatedly drained his lifeforce, forcing Juggernaut to call on the X-Men for aid. After being rescued, Juggernaut joined the X-Men while Black Tom was believed dead. [Uncanny X-Men (1st series) #410-412]
  • After a mission to the 616 Universe, the Exiles were forced to leave Nocturne behind and take the X-Men student Beak in her place. Nocturne intended to visit the X-Men but was intercepted by Exodus and manipulated into joining his new Brotherhood. [Exiles (1st series) #48]
  • Exodus recruited Avalanche, Mammomax and a still living Black Tom Cassidy into his new Brotherhood, and hired Sabretooth to join as well. [Weapon X (2nd series) #28]

Chronology

X-Men (1st series) #161:

With his new Brotherhood gathered, Exodus launched their inaugural an attack on Philadelphia, though they were immediately intercepted by the X-Men. Nocturne proved unwilling to kill humans, showing she realized she was on the wrong side. The X-Men had defeated most of the Brotherhood when an overzealous plasma blast from Havok provided the opportunity to escape. Later, in the woods near the X-Mansion, the team suspected one of their number was a mole, given the X-Men were there waiting for their attack. Black Tom then revealed his secret weapon against the X-Men: Juggernaut his mole inside the X-Men.

X-Men (1st series) #162:

Black Tom revealed that and Juggernaut had concocted a plan by which he would infiltrate the X-Men. Nocturne, having realized she was amongst killers, tried to leave but Juggernaut restrained her and seemingly killed her. Unfortunately, Cain’s young friend Sammi witnessed this and Black Tom killed him, which drove Cain into a rage. He attacked the team and destroyed their element of surprise. Havok, Iceman and Shen Xorn (brother to the slain Xorn) intercepted the Brotherhood but were overwhelmed by the villains.

X-Men (1st series) #163:

The Brotherhood went on to attack the X-Mansion. A still-living Nocturne revealed that Juggernaut was actually a mole and had spared her life. Together with the X-Men, they battled the Brotherhood on the grounds of the X-Mansion.

X-Men (1st series) #164:

As the Brotherhood and the X-Men fought, Black Tom grew to gigantic size and enveloped the X-Mansion with his roots and branches. Nocturne possessed the tree-man but could only hold him at bay. Ultimately, the only way for the X-Men to contain the threat of the Brotherhood was for Shen Xorn to open his helmet and suck them into the black hole within his head. Exodus, Mammomax, Avalanche and Black Tom were sucked into the black hole, along with Nocturne (who was possessing Black Tom) and Juggernaut, who went along to protect Nocturne. Sabretooth was cut to pieces by Wolverine and not drawn into the Black Hole.

Uncanny X-Men (1st series) #460:

The Brotherhood ended up in Mojoworld after their journey through the black hole. They sold Nocturne and Juggernaut for their freedom.

After

  • Exodus gathered a new team, a new group of Acolytes, to investigate the mutant decimation. [X-Men Annual (3rd series) #1]
  • Avalanche relocated to San Francisco and opened a bar, retiring from criminal life. He was later drawn back into mutant affairs and criminal life, before being killed in a plot by the Red Skull. [X-Men: Manifest Destiny #5, Uncanny Avengers (1st series) #1]
  • Mammomax was next seen as a member of the 198 remaining mutants on Earth post Decimation. He was consumed by the Predator X hunters. [New X-Men (2nd series) #33]
  • Sabretooth later joined the X-Men, albeit against his will. [X-Men (2nd series) #191]
  • Juggernaut and Nocturne eventually escaped the Mojoverse. [Uncanny X-Men (1st series) #460-461]
