In the Sentinel Territories on Battleworld, mutants were on the brink of extinction and those who remained were imprisoned in internment camps or forced to hide in the sewers. Like many mutants, Destiny had been captured and placed in a camp, but she betrayed her own kind by helping the authorities hunt down fugitive mutants. When a group of rebellious mutants tried to break the prisoners out of the camp, Destiny tried to stop them but was eventually knocked out.

In What If? (2nd series) #33, the Phoenix Force didn’t stop being Jean Grey. Instead, it continued to live out her life amongst the X-Men. Over time, the Phoenix struggled to conceal its identity and it used its powers to manipulate those around it. Eventually, it began to lose control and the rest of the X-Men realized who the Phoenix really was. It was then that Destiny approached the Phoenix and gave her a grave warning about what would happen if it continued to live on Earth. Showing it visions of the future and all it cared for dying in its fire, the Phoenix reluctantly left the planet and returned its power to the cosmos.

In What If? (2nd series) #98, Mystique didn’t throw her son off a cliff. Instead, she had second thoughts and decided to raise him in secret with Destiny. The two women managed to keep the young boy, Michael, hidden from everyone, including the Brotherhood of Mutants, for whom the two women acted as leaders. Destiny could foresee a great tragedy occurring in the future but she knew she had to let it all play out. One day, Mystique brought a young girl, Rogue, into the family, an event that Destiny knew would bring about the end of the happy life. Sure enough, events unfolded that resulted in Michael being killed and Rogue absorbing his entire psyche into herself. Destiny was saddened by having to watch it all play out but she knew it was what needed to happen.

In the Age of Apocalypse, Destiny had moved to the Savage Land and set up a safe haven called Avalon. There she adopted a young boy named Douglas Ramsey and remained hidden from the world for many years. One day a woman named Switchback entered the colony and, when Destiny read her future, she could only see fire and death befalling Avalon. She was soon followed my Nightcrawler and Mystique, who were looking to bring Destiny back to America to help fight Apocalypse. Despite her best efforts to keep her family safe, Apocalypse’s servant the Shadow King found them and attacked. Douglas sacrificed himself to save Destiny and, in that moment, she knew that she couldn’t hide anymore and agreed to go back to America. Meeting up with Bishop, she could see that he was not from her timeline, but rather one where Apocalypse never came to power. Knowing it would be a certain death for her, Destiny led Bishop into the M’Kraan Crystal, the nexus of all realities. Inside, she guided him through a portal that allowed him to travel back in time and stop the reality from ever being created.

During the Third Life of Moira, Destiny was one of the only people to know that Moira MacTaggart was a mutant, whose power caused reality to reset itself upon her death. Having already lived through two lives, Moira dedicated her third one to developing a cure for mutants, something which Destiny found abhorrent. Catching up with Moira and killing her entire research staff, Destiny and the Brotherhood issued the woman an ultimatum. In her next life, Moira was to use her intelligence to help the mutant race instead of doom it. If she even thought about trying to do otherwise, then the Destiny in that timeline would know and plan accordingly. To make sure that Moira got the message, Destiny ordered Pyro to incinerate her slowly, killing Moira and resetting the timeline. In the subsequent lives of Moira, she honored Destiny’s request/threat in doing everything she could think of to ensure that the mutant race came out on top.

On one of the worlds the Exiles landed in, they didn’t expect to be ambushed straight away but, thanks to Destiny, that’s what happened in Exiles (1st series) #50. Irene, along with most of the Brotherhood, had been locked in prison for years, but she had seen visions of the reality-hopping team coming to their world and knew it was her only chance to escape. Formulating a plan with Mystique, the only member not imprisoned, the Exiles were ambushed when they landed and Mystique kidnapped Blink, replacing her without any of them knowing. Mystique managed to manipulate the Exiles into breaking Destiny and the rest of the Brotherhood out of prison. During the escape, The Brotherhood’s leader Big M, an alternate version of Mimic, met his heroic Exiles counterpart and had a change of heart. Changing the Brotherhood’s goal, Destiny and the rest of the team eventually became a force for good in their world.

On one world, Destiny found herself as one of the few superpowered people left on Earth after the planet was ravaged by both the Kree and an alien race similar to the Brood. Joining forces with Legion and Margali Szardos, the trio called themselves the Defenders and battled to save what remained of the world. One day Destiny foresaw the arrival of the Fantastic Four, who were travelling between realities at the time. The heroic team was just what the Defenders needed as they helped turn the tide of the war in their favor. The Fantastic Four soon left the world again, but Destiny and her team now had a fighting chance to finally liberate their planet.
