Sunder's real name was only revealed in the Marvel Handbooks.

Sunder lost a leg during the Mutant Massacre. He was killed by Pretty Boy of the Reavers on Muir Island in Uncanny X-Men (1st series) #254. Sunder reappeared in Dark X-Men (2nd series) #2, having been restored by Krakoan Resurrection Protocols, only to be killed again by Archnagel under the influence of Orchis.
