Advanced Idea Mechanics was originally the science and technology department of HYDRA before breaking off as a separate organization. Although possessing substantial history as a terrorist organization in the Marvel Universe, AIM has only had marginal contacts with the X-Men and mutantkind. Recently, however, the organization was bought out by Sunspot on behalf of the Avengers.
