The "Berzerkers" were transformed into super-powered individuals by a magical Fire Fountain forged by Loki. They gained significant powers, but lost the ability to imagine or dream as a result. The effects of the Fire Fountain were eventually reversed, turning the group back into normal people.
The group was only referred to as "Berzerkers" in solicitation material, and never in the story itself.
