Potentially due to her own past history as a child under the constant threat of kidnapping, Bling turned her attention to Shogo, Jubilee's adopted son. She worked with fellow student Armor to design a protective device to keep him safe during the myriad of assaults on the X-Men's home. Jubilee was appreciative of Bling's efforts and the two started to bond. Eventually, Bling started to transfer her affections to Jubilee, confessing to her what had occurred with Mercury had upset her on a very deep level. She was extremely uncomfortable that her being a lesbian had resulted in her being punched in even such a progressive school like the one she was in. Unfortunately, she also misread Jubilee's friendship and kissed her, thinking there was something more between them. Still oblivious as Jubilee was called off on a mission, Bling was feeling pretty proud of herself for taking the shot and “going for it.” [X-Men (4th series) #6-8]
Jubilee returned from her mission, only to take Bling, Mercury and a host of other students on another one. A bunch of rogue Sentinels were active on Catalina Island and needed to be destroyed. During the fight, Bling was knocked into the ocean, with Mercury jumping in to rescue her. While still in the water, the two girls discussed recent events and the fact that Bling and now opted to file a complaint against Mercury for her earlier assault. Bling confessed that she felt lonely due to being the only lesbian in the school and further ugly as a result of her mutation. She thought Mercury might understand, as she too had a physical mutation. Mercury told her she wasn't ugly and that she had actually reacted as to how Bling had been pursuing her, leaving notes in her locker, she found it creepy. The two girls agreed when they were back on dry land they would try and start over. [X-Men (4th series) # 10.NOW, 11-12]
The school would yet again relocate this time to Central Park. By this time, however, Bling was no longer able to outrun all that had happened to her. Becoming uncharacteristically aggressive, she even ended up in a fight with Quentin Quire after she accidentally damaged his new shoes. Her change in behavior had not gone unnoticed and she was placed in a select group of students being mentored by Jubilee and who that the school now felt were the most unsuitable to become X-Men. This was crushing to Bling, as she was trying to find purpose and becoming an X-Man was currently her primary goal. She requested a transfer to Chamber's class but he refused, telling her there was a reason she was placed with Jubilee and she needed to accept that.
After one of the other students, Face was viciously attacked in the park,Bling's class opted to investigate but decided to keep Jubilee in the dark, fearing she would sideline them. [Generation X (2nd series) # 1-3] Their search took them to the bowels of the park. Bling found herself clashing with the rest of the more risk-averse students, excluding Quentin, who like her had something to prove. As they went back and forth, Bling was attacked from above by a familiar and terrifying foe, Emplate, though he was now in possession of the body of his sister, Monet. Bling screamed as Emplate drained the life from her again. Her classmates were simply outclassed. Fortunately, the surprise arrival of Jubilee, Monet's former friend, jaunted her to temporarily reassert control of her own body and disappear.
An injured Bling was taken to the infirmary, lucky to be alive. Jubilee questioned what was she thinking, as it was so unlike her to be that reckless. Chamber, who was also present, asked if Jubilee could give them some time alone. Chamber confronted Bling about her goal of making X-Man. He felt she just didn't want to live among humans again and saw being an X-Man as her out to avoiding that. A tearful Bling confessed this was true; how could she ever go back to living among humans when she clearly wasn't one anymore? If she didn't become an X-Man what was the point of all her pain?
