BIOGRAPHY - Page 5

Bling was as good as her word and returned to the school in time for the impromptu wedding of her two mentors, Rogue and Gambit. She even created their wedding rings herself using her powers. [Mr. and Mrs. X #1] Despite her initial aversion to therapy, she also later opted to join a support group created by Nightcrawler and Domino for mutants suffering with body image issues due to their mutations. The group was open not just to heroes but to villains as well, so there were some tense moments. [Domino Annual (1st series) #1]

Bling was one of the many X-Men and their associates who answered Jean Grey's call when the team were facing the insane omega level mutant, Nate Grey. All those present were believed killed by Nate in the ensuing battle. [Uncanny X-Men (5th series) #9-10] Nate had transported them to a pocket dimension he had created in which mutants were dominant. They lived in “perfect” peace, though without much freedom. Bling's own life was not that much different there and she was a student in another mutant training school. [Age of X-Man: Nextgen #1-2, 5] She and the others trapped in Grey's pocket dimension returned to the real world in time for the Krakoan Age.

The mutant race having effectively defeated death, created their own nation on Krakoa. Bling was among the many to flock to the island, though she was not without concerns. Unlike most of the island's new residents, she didn't entirely trust the promise of Krakoa for their kind. She knew their peace would always need to be defended. It was this very trepidation that resulted in taking part in a short-lived strike force led by Psylocke, X-23 and Cable. A mysterious villain, Apoth, had been using children to create a drug and planned to destroy the city of Dubai. Through teamwork, they defeated Apoth and saved the city but seemed to disband after one mission together. [Fallen Angels (2nd series) #5-6] She later joined Krakoa's defenders in their battle on Otherworld against the forces of Annihilation and Amenth, preventing the annexation of their new home. [X of Swords: Destruction #1] Still, life on Krakoa was not all fire and brimstone for Bling, as most of her classmates who had been killed were given a second chance at life. [X-Factor (4th series) #5] She also got the opportunity to branch out from Krakoa as well when she took part in the defense of the African nation of Wakanda, along with Storm, Frenzy, Black Panther and host of other heroes of African ancestry. [Black Panther (7th series) #24]

Unfortunately, though, Bling's concerns about Krakoa were not entirely unfounded. The island was ruled by a Council who enacted very harsh laws. Those who violated it were exiled in secret trials to the pit underneath Krakoa. Two of Bling's friends, Oya and Nekra, had been two of the court’s victims. They managed to figure out a way to manifest on the island's surface and communicate with Bling, just after she came back to the island after searching for their corpses elsewhere. When she found out what had happened to them, she, along with many residents of the island, secretly attempted to engineer their escape. For Bling's part, she secured for them a ship, though it was stolen by Sabretooth. Despite this, they still managed to escape with the help of Cypher. It was unclear if Bling ever found out they escaped. [Sabretooth (4th series) #3-5]During Krakoa's second Hellfire Gala, Bling put herself forward to join the new X-Men squad. Unfortunately, so did Surge and the two girls theorized they managed to “split” the youth vote with both ultimately losing out to Firestar. [X-Men Vote Comic Strips (2nd series) #3] While trying to find Mercury at the ball, Bling! noticed an altercation. A group of men in white coats exposed former Hydra leader, Gorgon to poison gas. Running back, she recruited some of the other younger X-Men trainees to help her investigate. They stealthily followed the men but eventually they were discovered and had no choice but to just unleash at their enemy. This suited Bling anyway, as she preferred the direct approach. Disturbingly, the men all part of the Typhon group (a front for the terrorist organization Hydra) turned into snakes. Their leader, Percy had exposed Gorgon to a compound that, once inhaled, overloaded a mutant’s abilities. Some of the other gala goers had taken Gorgon out of harm’s way before that could happen, so an international incident had already been avoided. Still during a brawl between the assembled X-Men hopefuls and Percy, Gorgon and all the Typhon's group snakes perished or rather were petrified by Gorgon's mutant gaze. Death wasn't as big a deal for mutants at point, thanks to the resurrection protocols, so Bling opted to end her search for Mercury and just party with her friends. [X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #50-55]

Bling was an attendee of another of Krakoa's major events, the marriage of two members of their Great Council, Mystique and Destiny. Wolverine strangely wanted her assistance, along with some of the other teen mutants, in selecting an appropriate wedding present for his former lover/arch nemesis Mystique. Bling knew what Mystique was but couldn't help but feel she deserved reverence for her staying power; in her eyes she really was one of the greatest mutant freedom fighters to ever live. She suggested they all combine their mutant gifts to create something truly unique for her. Unfortunately, of all those present, only Pixie was in favor of her idea. Bling crafted a unique sculpture, which Pixie imbued with some of her hallucinogenic dust. Still, Bling felt very proud of her contribution to the day and getting to be present at the long overdue formal union of the mutant race's most iconic sapphic couple. Maybe it would be her one day? [X-Men: The Wedding Special (2nd series) # 1]

[Note: In this issue, Bling flirts with Pixie and asks her if she aware that her relationship with Mercury was open, which totally goes over Pixie's head. This is actually at odds with Bling's arc in X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #50-55, where she is looking for Mercury and says they are having relationship problems. Around this time, Mercury was pursuing Loa. [Way of X #3]. While the one does not necessarily negate the other, if Mercury was free to pursue other girls, why were they having problems? Possibly they opened their relationship as a consequence of Mercury of pursuing other girls or Bling was trying to save face/rebound after being publicly cheated on by Mercury.]

Following the fall of Krakoa, Bling's whereabouts are unrevealed.
